Just being careful. Also, I ride on Pa state lands which requires titling, registration and insuring the quad. All of which I can't do without all 7 digits of the VIN. I figured there was someone on this site who understands Polaris' process of issuing VINs. Each digit means something. I doubt Polaris randomly slapped VINs on their machines.. The VIN's on these era Polaris' are only 7 digits. They went to a full VIN around 1998 from what I recall.. You can look up the VIN you have and identify the year make and model. I had a Blue 1995 Polaris 300 2x4 VIN 2563837 and the VIN record showed it was a 1995 Polaris 450 4x4 with a generic picture of a green 4x4.. The summary was that the VIN couldn't be used to order parts, only the make.
• Polaris products have adopted and use the industry standard of a 17 digit VIN. - The first 3 characters identify the manufacturer of the vehicle - Digits 4-8: Are the vehicle attributes - Digit 9: Is a check digit - Digit 10: Is Model Year - Digit 11: Is plant code - Digits 12-17: Are sequential numbers. Don't let the dmv tell you that you have to have a 17 digit VIN because Polaris didn't use a 17 digit VIN till around 1997 or 1998. 2008 Dodge Caliper 2010 Chevrolet Equinox.
