I run 10 w 40 on my 600, they also have 10 w 30 Honda oil that I run on dirt bikes at winter.. It also says to avoid synthetic oils. My 03 750 ACE has done nearly 100000km and I have not used SAE specific oils or synthetic oils. I do however change the oil filter with each oil change each 5-7000kms The VT motor is not a high powered or high tech motor, so I think it is a moot point about being too precious about oil type or exact weight.
